THE POWER OF FILMIC TECHNIQUE IN FICTION WRITING
The art of fiction storytelling has a lot to learn from the craft of filmmaking and screenwriting. Rich characters, breaking the work into scenes, the use of strong visuals, the importance of conflict and building suspense, unapologetic editing -- all go into a winning film story, which begins after-all, on the written page.
This workshop explores these techniques to inspire and improve your fiction writing. We will discuss how to create compelling characters from back-story to ongoing 'need'; the best place to start and end a chapter; how to utilize visuals; as well as how to build plot, maintain tension and develop suspense in order to keep your reader turning the page.
Samples will help illustrate these techniques. Feel free to bring some of your own material.
